I sat next to a beautiful woman on the airplane today… or yesterday…? doesn’t matter… Lalita, from Nepal, was returning from visiting her children in San Francisco. Though I have read a book about Pakistan and had friends who lived in/visited India and Afghanistan, I had yet to place Nepal in my mind map of the world (containing all 50 states, and fewer than 25countries).
So I will share with you what I learned about Nepal.
In Nepal…
- grow the freshest mangoes–larger than the width of my hand.
- the nationals dress in beautiful colors, with percussive bangles to match.
- the food is “simple” (according to Lalita), unlike US food.
- flowers bloom, both tropical and common…sweat peas, zinnias, marigolds, to name a few. (Years of working at a greenhouse continue to pay off)
- retirement, contrary to my thinking, is possible.
- lives Mt. Everest.
- nights are cool and summers are warm.
- children leave to seek opportunity.
- children stay to be near their families.
